Architect and Construction Foundation

Course Description: This is a basic course for students interested in the architectural design and construction industry. The course content includes basic and advanced drawing skills, room design, rendering, model building, building codes and structural design. Students will spend substantial time learning to use computer animated design software (CAD). Students may take this course singly or as part as an engineering/ architecture focus. Students of all levels of experience and ability can be successful in this class. Most assigned work can be completed in the class, but students can also expect up to ½ hour of homework per week.

Course Description: This course is for students planning on a career in architecture, interior design, or the construction and building industry. Sketching and computer aided design (CAD) will be stressed. Students will learn about various building and zoning codes, energy-efficient construction, and estimating costs for design and construction jobs. Students will use AutoCAD, Chief Architect, MS Office, and Estimation software packages. Industry guest speakers, visits to local building sites, model building and some full-size buildings will be included in this course. Students will create a student portfolio of their planning and design work; the portfolio will be organized and presented according to professional standards. Most drawings can be completed in class, but students can expect up to ½ hour of homework per week in order to assemble their portfolio
