Course Description: This introductory course teaches students how children grow and learn. The main focus of the lcass is the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of children before birth through the age of 6. Students will be taught the knowledge and skills needed by parents and professional childcare providers by participating in various children's activities. They will also get to visit local elementary schools for off-site hands on experiences. Those who choose to attend Bellevue College will be able to receive college credit from this course. This course may also be applied toward the Family and Consumer Sciences Certificate. Most assigned work is completed during class time, but an hour of homework each week should be expected.



Child Development 2/Independent Study

1 Semester/0.5 Credit

Grades 11 12

CTE Dual Credit (5 College Credits)

Prerequisite: Child Development 1 or teacher permission

Requirements: Must provide or arrange transportation to a location outside of JHS campus

Course Description: In this course, students will be assigned intern positions at off-site preschools or elementary schools. Before taking this course, students must have completed the Child Development 1 Course or get special permission so that they have the skills and knowledge beforehand. Students are expected to accomplish a variety of jobs, including assisting a classroom teacher in planning, and observing learning behaviors in children. This course may be applied toward the Family and Consumer Sciences Certificate.
